Emily E. Harwell is a natural resource and social conflict analyst, and human rights investigator. She is currently an Advisor to Forest Trends and Partner at Natural Capital Advisors LLC. She has more than 20 years of experience in research and policy advice related to land and resource conflicts and governance reform in post conflict and fragile states. She has served as research advisor on three truth and reconciliation commissions, with a focus on natural resources and human rights. She was a natural resources monitor for the UN Security Council's Panel of Experts to Liberia, and expert advisor to the Conflict and Disaster Thematic Group for High Level Panel on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Other work includes expert advisor to International Crisis Group, Human Rights Watch, the World Bank, UNREDD, as well as working with numerous local civil society groups on human rights and conflict documentation and independent forest monitoring. She earned her Ph.D. in environmental anthropology at Yale University in 1999.
