Eric Daman

Costume designer, Gossip Girl

Eric Daman is the costume designer for the CW’s hit show, “Gossip Girl” and recently the designer for the pilot “The Carrie Diaries”, Candace Bushnell’s prequel to “sex and the city”. Prior to that, he was the assistant designer to Patricia Field on “Sex in the City.” And was part of the EMMY Award winning team. In March, Allure named him one of the seven influencers “who could change everything about the way we look.” His work on “Gossip Girl” has been lauded on the front page The New York Times and in InStyle, People, Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Post, US Weekly, USA Today, Nylon, Star, Life & Style, and other publications. His first book, You Know You Want It: Style—Inspiration—Confidence, sold out all over and NYC and is quickly becoming a sought after collectable.

Daman’s fashion career was born in Paris, where he studied French literature at the Sorbonne. While there, he was discovered by the photographer Steven Meisel. Daman modeled with Kate Moss for several Calvin Klein campaigns and appeared on the cover of L’Uomo Vogue. He also modeled for other legendary talents like Mario Testino , Peter Lindberg and Pierre & Gilles.

It was during this time that Daman discovered that he loved styling. He moved to New York and began work as a stylist, designing shoots for Terry Richardson and for Spin, id, The Face, Visionnaire, and other magazines. Later Daman was brought on as assistant designer to Patricia Field as she and Sarah Jessica Parker were looking to give “Sex & the City” a downtown editorial edge in seasons 2, 3, and 4. He was awarded an Emmy for his work.

Daman’s big-screen film credits include costume design for Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger in The Door in the Floor, Adrian Grenier in his break out role in “The Adventures of Sebastian Cole”, Willem Dafoe in Anamorph, Russell Crowe and Laura Dern in Tenderness, Isabella Rossellini and Hayden Panettiere in The Architect, and Gretchen Mol in Train Wreck.

Recently Daman has branched out into the fashion market place creating a very successful (and very affordable) line of hosiery for DKNY, Party Dresses for Charlotte Russe, (after serving as their creative director ) as well as serving as stylist and creative director for Macy’s Menswear private Label Threads & Heirs. Most recently he collaborated with Swarovski to create a beautiful line of accessories for their Atelier collection

Daman has appeared on Project Runway allstars hamming it up with Ms Piggy as celebrity guest judge, America’s next top model serving both as celebrity stylist and judge, MTV’s The 7, E!, The Rachael Ray Show, and on the CW’s high fashion showcase special “Making It”. He lives in New York.
