Ellen R. Shaffer

Co-Director, Center for Policy Analysis

Dr. Ellen R. Shaffer is Co-Director of the Center for Policy Analysis which conducts policy research, analysis and advocacy on women's reproductive health and rights, access to health care, and on globalization and health. The Center's projects include: Trust Women/Silver Ribbon Campaign aims to magnify the voice and visibility of the pro-choice majority. The Center for Policy Analysis on Trade and Health (CPATH) analyzes global trade agreements. Dr. Shaffer has written the politics chapters for several editions of Our Bodies Ourselves. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of California, San Francisco. She has a Masters in Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley, a Ph.D. from the School of Hygiene and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist. In the late 1980s she brought together labor and County officials in support of the ARC/AIDS Vigil, an encampment in the federal plaza in San Francisco, demanding greater funding for effective treatments for AIDS
