Evangeline Lilly will next be starring in <i>The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug</i> and next year’s third installment <i>The Hobbit: There and Back Again</i>, parts two and three of the prequel to the hugely successful <i>Lord of the Rings</i> trilogy. On the big screen Lilly can be seen starring opposite Hugh Jackman in <i>Reel Steel</i>, opposite Jeremy Reiner in Kathryn Bigelow’s <i>The Hurt Locker</i>, and co-starring with John Malkovich in <i>Afterwards</i>, which premiered at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival.<br /> <br /> Evangeline Lilly was discovered in Kelowna, British Columbia by a Ford Talent agent. Six months later, she moved to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia and study international relations. After appearing in a few commercials, she chose to give up acting and focus on her studies. Two years later, however, a friend urged her to give acting another try. She soon landed the part of a corpse in episodes of <i>Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital</i> and the film <i>The Long Weekend</i>.<br /> <br /> In January, 2004, Lilly landed her first speaking role in a television series when she was cast as “Kate” in ABC’s hit show, <i>Lost</i>. Created by J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Jeffrey Lieber, <i>Lost</i> won the 2006 Golden Globe Award® for Best Television Drama Series as well as the Screen Actor’s Guild Award® for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series. Lilly was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Actress in a Drama Series and received a 2007 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series.<br /> <br /> Lilly is wholeheartedly devoted to philanthropy, traveling and gaining a higher knowledge of various cultures around the world. She has been a volunteer for children’s projects since the age of 14 and during college founded and ran a world development and human rights committee. Later, she spent three weeks living in a grass hut in the jungles of the Philippines.<br /> <br /> Fluent in French, Lilly loves reading, writing, painting, music, nature, staying active, learning and travel.
