Filisa Mantas is an educator and self-proclaimed health/fitness nut. Filisa believes in nourishing both the body and the mind with regular exercise, healthy diet and a collection of good books, or in her case, being a lifelong student. Filisa graduated from DePaul University with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She is currently pursuing an additional Master’s Degree with a Type 075 certification in Educational Leadership from The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Filisa also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and Communications from The University of Dayton. She has been teaching for nearly a decade and was most recently a third grade teacher at Willard Elementary School in River Forest, Illinois. Filisa recently resigned from this position as she and her husband George excitedly await the birth of their first baby in November of this year!

After running two Chicago Marathons, one for the Organization of Autism Research and one for Breast Cancer with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, she saw and felt the power that we have to raise money for charities and help others, and it was life-changing. Filisa strives to instill in her students not only a love of learning and taking care of their body and their health, but also a philanthropic desire to help others. These are also the foundational pieces that she hopes to use as she begins to raise her own children, starting with her first in a few short months!
