Firuzeh Mahmoudi is the founder and director of United for Iran. Mahmoudi founded United for Iran following the 2009 protests in Iran where millions of young Iranians protested the presidential election and were brutally suppressed. Mahmoudi organized rallies in 110 cities in support of the Iranian protesters –– the largest global day of support for Iran in history. From her work organizing the rallies, United for Iran was born. Mahmoudi is an Iranian American who moved to the United States when she was 12. Mahmoudi studied political economics from UC Berkeley and later earned her master's degree in environmental science and public policy. Prior to founding United for Iran, she worked as an international coordinator and environmental health advocate at Health Care without Harm and at the United Nations Development Program. Mahmoudi also serves as the Board Chair of Golestan, a Persian language immersion school in the Bay Area.
