Francesco Fiondella

Senior Communications Officer, The International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Columbia University

Francesco Fiondella is a science writer and multimedia specialist who oversees communications for the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, which is part of Columbia University's Earth Institute. The IRI uses advances in climate science and forecasting to help developing countries become less vulnerable to floods, droughts, famines and other climate and weather-related risks.

He is also a cofounder of Climate Models 2014, a wildly successful wall calendar of scientists-turned-models with an aim to increase public engagement with science.

Before coming to the IRI, Francesco worked at the Wall Street Journal as an information graphics editor and staff writer. He is difficult to spot in the wild, because his face is usually obscured by a camera. Follow @fiondella on Twitter for his updates about climate science, science communication and photography.
