Dr. Franklin T. Wilson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice and an Associated Faculty Member with the Department of African and African American Studies at Indiana State University. He also serves on the Board of Directors of CRIMCAST.

Dr. Wilson’s research and publication interests include the depiction of municipal police officers and crime in the media. Additionally, Dr. Wilson is currently researching and writing a book on the largest prison cemetery in the United States. Other areas of research and publication interests include Race, Gender & Socioeconomic Class Issues, Education and Literacy Issus, Public & Prison Health Issues, Death Penalty Issues and The History of Island Prisons. His research has been published in leading journals such as The Prison Journal, Women & Criminal Justice, Race & Justice, and the Journal of Crime Justice and Popular Culture. Additionally, Dr. Wilson and/or his research has been featured in numerous news outlets including the New York Times, Pittsburg Gazette, Houston Chronicle, U.S. Catholic, Quartz, Texas Tribune, Texas Observer, MMXLII [mixly], Trebuchet Magazine, Madame Noire, Monocle 24 Radio (London), among others. He is also the author and editor of Crime and Media Studies: Diversity of Method, Medium, and Communication.

He is an editorial board member for the Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Criminology and has regularly served as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Black Studies, Crime and Delinquency, and Women and Criminal Justice. He was the winner of the 2010 Indiana State University Tenure-track International Faculty Award. He was also invited and served as a topic area chair for the “Media and Crime” Section of the 2013 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Annual Conference. In the summer of 2014 Dr. Wilson served as the keynote speaker at the Annual National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executive Conference.
