Gary Alan Fine is John Evans Professor of Sociology at Northwestern University and a current member of the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Princeton. He is the author of Kitchens: The Culture of Restaurant Work and Difficult Reputations: Collective Memories of the Evil, Inept and Controversial. His current research, Players and Pawns: How Chess Builds Community and Culture, a study of the dynamics of competitive chess, will be published in August 2015.
