George Weinberg

Psychotherapist; author, 'Society and the Healthy Homosexual'

George Weinberg is a psychotherapist in New York City. He coined the term 'homophobia' in the late 1960s and crusaded for its acceptance. He made the world aware of homophobia with his book, Society and the Healthy Homosexual, published in 1972. He helped to get homosexuality removed from the DSM catalogue of mental illnesses. He has a doctorate in clinical psychology from Columbia University and an MA in English literature from NYU. He has written 12 books, and has also written for popular media and for television.
