Goody Niosi

Writer and author and a former film editor and director. Hiker, alpinist, traveller and passionate about telling stories that inspire others

Goody Niosi was born in Karlsruhe, Germany and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was five years old. She developed a passion for books even before she learned to read. But when she did learn, there was no stopping her – reading became a lifelong addiction. At least half the photographs in her mother’s albums show a young pigtailed child with her face bent over the pages of an open book. By age 10 she knew that she wanted to be a writer. But first she took a detour through the film industry where she was an editor, writer and director – the point, however, was always to tell compelling, and hopefully, transformative, stories.

She got her first “paying gig” as a journalist with the Nanaimo Daily News in 1996. She went on to write for various magazines and newspapers including the Victoria Times Colonist, Homes & Living and other publications. She lives above a stable in the country near Nanaimo BC with her dog, Abby. She is currently working on her next book.

Goody’s published books include Magnificently Unrepentant, the story of Merve Wilkinson and Wildwood; Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives; Nanaimo, The Harbour City, The Romance Continues, The Art and Gardens of Grant Leier and Nixie Barton, and Ken Kirkby: A Painter’s Quest for Canada.
