Grant Cornwell

President, The College of Wooster

Since becoming president of The College of Wooster in 2007, Grant Cornwell and his administrative team have worked tirelessly to move the college forward, with notable success. Wooster has enjoyed record applications, increased its selectivity, and strengthened both its academic profile and the diversity of its student body and faculty. Guided by a new strategic plan developed under Cornwell’s leadership, the college has made strategic investments in its mission and its vision for the future, strengthening its standing as America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research.

Cornwell is nationally recognized for his work in defining liberal learning in a global environment. A philosopher by training, his scholarship and teaching lie in the areas of human rights, globalization, and critical race theory. Prior to coming to Wooster, Cornwell served as vice president of the university and dean of academic affairs at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and biology from St. Lawrence University, and a master’s degree and doctorate in philosophy, both from the University of Chicago.
