Hassanah El-Yacoubi

PhD student in Religious Studies at University of California, Riverside

Hassanah was born and raised in Northern Virginia to an American-Muslim mother and an Arab Muslim father. She has always been in a unique position where she straddled both identities with great pride.

Since college she realized the extent to which Muslim women were lacking confidence in their religious identity, especially with regard to wearing the hijab. She felt a tremendous sense of obligation to do her part in representing what it meant to be both Muslim and modern.

She decided to combine her love for hijab and fashion by starting a blog (www.getPFH.com) that promoted faith, fashions, fancies, and foodie adventures of a modern Muslim woman living in California.

Student by day and a blogger by night, she is currently a PhD student in Religious Studies at The University of California Riverside focusing on women in Islam.
