Heather Shotton

Dr. Heather Shotton is President of the National Indian Education Association. An Assistant
Professor of Native American Studies at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Shotton is a leading
expert on improving American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian access to -- and
equity in –- higher education. A board member of NIEA since 2010, Dr. Shotton previously
served as the association’s President-Elect.

Dr. Shotton has spent her career improving Native student access to postsecondary education.
Before joining the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Shotton served as Assistant Director of
Multicultural Student Affairs at Oklahoma City University, where she worked directly with
Native students and coordinated the university’s American Indian Scholars program. A member
of the Wichita & Affiliated Tribes, and also of Kiowa and Cheyenne descent, Dr. Shotton holds a
doctorate in Adult and Higher Education from the University of Oklahoma.
