Hellin Kay

Photographer, Stylist & Director

Born in Moscow Russia, immigrated to the US in 1979. Ms. Kay grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and spent her youth in the punk music scene of Baltimore & Washington DC, organizing local punk shows and protesting the Reagan 80s. Ms. Kay is a photographer, stylist, director and brand consultant, with twenty years of experience in the fashion and entertainment industry. After graduating with a BA and MFA in film and photography from Bard College and directing six short films before the age of 25, including “Every Woman was once a little girl with Dreams,” which was included in Miranda July’s first Big Miss Moviola Project in 1995, Ms. Kay accepted her first job in the publishing world as an assistant to Fashion & Creative Director Polly Mellen at Allure magazine. Following Ms. Mellen's retirement in 1999, Hellin spent fifteen years working as a photographer, director, and stylist, both as a freelance contributor (L'Uomo Vogue, British Vogue, i-D, Elle, Nylon, French, Blackbook, Teen Vogue, Glamour) and as the staff Fashion Director of Russian Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and Spoon Paris, where she photographed and styled fashion shoots and oversaw editorial content. She is currently the Digital Content Director and in-house photographer & stylist for the Erin Fetherston Design Group and continues to work as a photographer and stylist for various fashion brands, celebrities and talent, as well as directing short films, advertising and music videos in New York & Los Angeles. She is working on a book of photos, stories and essays about her days, nights and years in Moscow, Paris, New York and Los Angeles.
