Dr. Howard H. Irving is widely recognized as one of the leading experts in family mediation. With 30 years experience as a practicing therapist and family mediator, Dr. Irving has been called on by numerous agencies to develop family mediation services and programs. He is the founding member and past President of Family Mediation Canada.

Dr. Irving is the author of over 90 articles and 6 books on family mediation, including such topics as parenting agreements, the effects of divorce on children and parents and research studies regarding the evaluation of dispute resolution programs.

Dr. Irving is a professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Social Work and cross-appointed in the Faculty of Law. He received his formal education at The University of Rhode Island, University of Connecticut, and The University of Toronto where he received his PhD.

He has recently published a book Children Come First, Mediation, Not Litigation, When Marriage Ends. Dundurn Press 2011
