Elena Paravantes has been active in the field of Nutrition and Communications for over 20 years as a clinical dietitian, food and nutrition consultant, author, journalist and teacher, both in the United States and Greece. An award winning, expert on the Greek Mediterranean Diet, her interviews and articles are published in many publications including Prevention, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, U.S. News and World Report, Fitness Magazine, Eat Clean, Today’s Dietitian, Food and Nutrition Magazine, NPR, Olive Oil Times, Oldways, Globo TV. She has been a speaker at many international conferences where she has been invited speak about the Greek diet, olive oil and nutrition promotion in the media. Elena is founder of OliveTomato.com a site about the Mediterranean Diet. Its mission is the promotion of the Mediterranean Diet, Greek Diet, Greek Food and Greek food products through accurate and scientifically based articles as well as recipes to readers from around the world. The site has garnered the interest of consumers, non-profit organizations, nutrition professionals, journalists, academics and food and beverage companies. Elena has collaborated with a number of organizations including Loyola University, University of Missouri, University, Louisiana State University, American College of Greece, American University of Madaba-Jordan. She is the lead author of the Chapter on Greek culture for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics publication Cultural Competency for Nutrition Professionals. An active member of several international nutrition organizations, Elena is the Past President of the American Overseas Dietetic Association and former Greek delegate for the European Federation of the Association of Dietitians (EFAD) and the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA). She has been on the Academy’s Member Value Committee, past Communications Chair for AODA and Country Representative for Greece. She is a member of the Hellenic Dietetic Association, Hellenic Federation of Dietitians-Nutritionists, Slow Food International and International Association of Culinary Professionals. She has been awarded the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year and Recognized Country Representative of the Year awards by the American Overseas Dietetic Association.
