Ilona Turner is Legal Director at Transgender Law Center, the largest national organization advancing justice for transgender and gender nonconforming people through policy advocacy, litigation, movement-building, and public education.

The organization’s litigation and policy advocacy focuses on employment and health care access, and includes work on behalf of transgender students, immigrants, and prisoners. Transgender Law Center’s legal team recently won an unprecedented victory on behalf of a transgender woman, Michelle Norsworthy, when the court granted a preliminary injunction ordering the California prison system to provide the plaintiff gender confirmation surgery. The organization also represented the complainant in Macy v. Holder, the groundbreaking 2012 EEOC decision holding that transgender people are protected by Title VII’s prohibition of sex discrimination.
