Jama Shelton

Assistant Professor, Silberman School of Social Work, Hunter College

Jama is an Assistant Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, CUNY. Prior to joining Silberman, Jama was a postdoctoral research fellow at the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research, NYU Silver School of Social Work. She was also Deputy Executive Director of the True Colors Fund, a leading non-profit organization that works to end LGBT youth homelessness. Jama has worked with queer and trans youth for over 15 years, the last 10 of which were focused specifically on the issue of homelessness. Dr. Shelton has worked in the areas of direct clinical practice with queer and trans youth experiencing homelessness, as well as program development, program evaluation, research, technical assistance and training.
