James Geach

Dad, astronomer, writer

Dr James Geach is a Royal Society University Research Fellow in the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR) at the University of Hertfordshire, UK.

Originally from Cornwall, UK, Geach studied physics at Imperial College London before gaining a PhD in astronomy at Durham University. He has held post-doctoral research positions at Durham and McGill University in Montreal before coming to CAR in 2013.

Geach's research focuses on the evolution of galaxies across cosmic time, attempting to understand the processes that have shaped our own Milky Way and myriad others we observe around us in the Universe today.

In 2014 Geach published his first popular science book: "Galaxy: Mapping The Cosmos" (Reaktion Books / University of Chicago Press), described by Publishers Weekly as going "an order of magnitude further than the usual popular astronomy title".
