James Mejia

CEO, Mejia Associates

James Mejía has dedicated his professional life to public service in Denver. He is currently the CEO of Mejía Associates, a Denver based consulting firm that works with businesses, non-profits, government agencies and candidates for political office. James is also the co-host of 9News' new breakout success, "Balance of Power," which airs on Sunday following Meet the Press.

Trusted by Denver Mayors John Hickenlooper and Wellington Webb, James was recruited to lead and manage some of the City’s most important, complex and challenging agencies and capital projects. The voters of Denver overwhelmingly elected James as an At-Large School Board Member and James was named founding CEO of the Denver Preschool Program that assists thousands of Denver families in providing quality preschool education for their children. James has created jobs, provided educational opportunities and established efficiencies in City government.

Born in Denver, the ninth of 13 children, James learned the importance of education from both parents; his father, a public school teacher and his mother who ran a child-care center from their Park Hill home.

James earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, a Master’s in Business Administration from Arizona State University, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma national honor society, and a Master’s in Public Policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, where he studied policy issues at the municipal, state and federal levels.
