Jamie Whitmore

Paralympic athlete

Jamie Whitmore has had five surgeries to rid her body of a rare but potent cancer, atrophying the left leg that once powered the world's most accomplished female off-road triathlete...She was told she would never walk or ride again...But Whitmore taught herself to walk again, taught herself to ride a track bike, and now she's schooling the rest of the international field, winning three consecutive gold medals at the para-cycling world championships, two in track and one in road...Whitmore, 39, will make her Paralympic debut in Rio eight years after being diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma.
