Jamiel L. Alexander

JLA

Mr. Jamiel L. Alexander was written off as a negative statistic due to the “street life” in Philadelphia. He was court appointed to do community service in York, PA in 2001. There he was introduced and completed the Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School AmeriCorps Program and is an active alumnus. In his position as Manager of Youth and Family Programs at Crispus Attucks Association, Jamiel for 12 years served and was responsible for a variety of tasks including managing afterschool & summer programs, professional & leadership development, youth & family workshops and various community service projects.
As a Rising Star award recipient in his community, Jamiel currently serves as a committee member for the York City General Authority Commission, NAACP, Ancestors Dream Organization and Helping Offer Options & Directions LLC.
In 2012 Mr. Alexander was appointed to serve on the National Council of Young Leaders as an advisor to our policy makers. Earlier this year, Jamiel’s colleagues on the YouthBuild National Alumni Council elected him as their President. Mr. Alexander was also appointed to the Aspen Institute Opportunity Youth Incentive Fund. The OYIF is collective impact work that brings stakeholders together from all sectors of the community to improve education and employment outcomes for opportunity youth.
In August of 2013 Jamiel was chosen to speak at the 50th Anniversary March on Washington at our nation’s capitol with over 150,000 people in attendance. The speakers included past and present civil rights leaders, congress, senators and celebrities who all commemorated the historic event.
Jamiel engages and serves with many organizations but makes it a priority to take care of “home” first. Because of his dedication to service he is asked regularly to speak about his experiences and his life’s journey. He is often invited to conferences to facilitate workshops, strategize with and organize communities nationally.
As a consultant and community leader, his most recent and everyday highlight is marrying the Love of his life Liz and their 2 children. Jamiel is proud to say, “I am becoming the change I want to see in the world.”
Peace & LOVE
