Jean Carnahan

Writer, speaker and former U.S. Senator

Writer, speaker, and political activist, Jean Carnahan is also the co-creator of the progressive political blog, firedupmissouri.com. After her husband, Gov. Mel Carnahan, was elected posthumously following an airplane crash in which he was killed along with their son, she served in the U.S. Senate, taking the seat previously held by Sen. John Ashcroft.

The former first lady of Missouri is the author of If Walls Could Talk and Don’t Let the Fire Go Out. Her son, Russ, is a member of Congress and her daughter, Robin, is Missouri’s Secretary of State. Tom Carnahan is founder of Wind Capital Group, a wind energy company.

She is a native of Washington, D.C., and a graduate of George Washington University with a degree in Business and Public Administration. She resides in St. Louis.
