Jessi D. Miller

Linguist, animal lover, civil rights activist

My name is Jessi. I grew up moving back and forth across the eastern half of the country, mostly between Illinois and Georgia, but there were plenty of other states included along the way. I had a little brother named Matthew, but I called him Matty. Matty has Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy, as well as several other disabilities. Duchennes is a terminal disease.

I was the first in my family to graduate college. I have a Bachelor's in Linguistics and a Master's in Teaching English to Speaker's of Other Languages (TESOL.) Matty made it to my first graduation, but he died the day before the second semester of my Master's program started. He tried so hard.

I made it through a year of Law School (for which I moved to another state to go to, I might add,) before my own health problems caught up with me and I had to leave.

Right now, I'm just doing my best to stay positive.
