Jessica Rising

Scribe of Kiddie Lore & Torturer of Tech Students

Jessica is a mother of five, a children's writer of speculative fiction, and a teacher of college composition at a school for science and math people (otherwise known as "The Devil"). Her passion lies in the genres of science fiction and fantasy and their various subgenres. To that end she also volunteers for Spocon — her hometown annual science fiction and fantasy convention — as their Head Literature Ambassador. She loves to read and write, sing karaoke, go camping with her family, and is an avid fan of British television, especially Monty Python, “Blackadder” and “Dr. Who”.

As for all the frou-frou stuff, she graduated in 2006 with honors from UI&U with a B.A. in Film, and again in 2013 with a Master of Arts in Writing and Literature for Children. Along with her membership in the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), she also belongs to the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the Modern Language Association (MLA).

In other words, she REALLY likes words.
