Javier William Lopez is the Assistant Commissioner at the NYC Health Department’s Center for Health Equity. His work portfolio includes food retail transformation, interfaith coalition building, coalition redesign, inter-agency partnerships, heath system transformation and violence prevention.
Providing a consistent racial and social justice voice within the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Javier is considered one of the leading New York City voices in the health equity movement. His approach to addressing health equity centers on moving away from the traditional public health conversation by explicitly inserting a race, racism, power and privilege as pathways to deconstruct the systems of oppression that have created health inequities.
