Joann Schulte is a pediatrician and medical epidemiologist. She currently works at the North Texas Poison Control Center at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Previously she was a medical epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she investigated disease outbreaks. Her international work with HIV/AIDS has been done in Africa and Haiti. She has been the state epidemiologist in Florida and an editorial fellow at the New England Journal of Medicine and now serves on the editorial board of the journal Pediatrics.
Her research interests include vaccine-preventable disease, HIV/AIDS, adolescent suicide and attempted self-injury, designer drug abuse, tuberculosis and public health surveillance.
She was a medical reporter before she went to medical school in Texas.
