Joel Conarroe

Joel Conarroe, the author of books and essays about contemporary literature, has reviewed fiction for the New York Times, The Washington Post, and elsewhere.

A former Dean of Arts and Sciences at Penn and former Executive Director of the Modern Language Association and editor of PMLA, he has chaired the Board of the National Book Foundation, which administers the National Book Awards. He is President Emeritus of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and a former president of the PEN American Center.
