Johan Svanstrom

President of the Hotels.com brand

Johan Svanstrom is President of the Hotels.com, Venere.com and Expedia Affiliate Network (EAN) brands. In this role he is responsible for overseeing innovation, strategic development and growth of the brands on a global basis. Concurrently, Svanstrom also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for eLong (NSDQ: LONG), China’s second largest online travel agency, which is majority owned by Expedia, Inc.

Previously, Svanstrom spent eight years with Expedia in Asia-Pacific where he launched the EAN and Hotels.com businesses in the region. As Managing Director of the Hotels.com Asia-Pacific brand, he grew the business to a leading regional player operating in 15 markets throughout Asia.

Prior to joining Expedia, Svanstrom was Head of the Digital Innovations Group at McDonald’s Corporation for three years, during which time he led the launch of Redbox (www.redbox.com) and the rolling out of Wi-Fi services at McDonald’s store network. Prior to that, Svanstrom was CEO of Freefund, an online database company matching university students with corporations and employers across Europe. From 1997 to 1999 he served as Vice President of Business Development at Glocalnet AB, a voice-over-IP telecom company that he helped take public on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

Svanstrom holds a Master’s of Science in Economics from the Stockholm School of Economics. He speaks 4 languages.
