John Toba Founder and CEO Counterpointing, Inc. John Toba is a producer and executive with a record of success measured in awards, audience reach, and revenue across the board in digital, TV, film, scripted and unscripted, long and short form, documentary and drama. His first writing job was in the story department of the five day a week soap opera, FAMILY AFFAIRS which went on to run for eight years. He then wrote and produced television drama series for Channel 5 and ITV in the UK, until 1998 when he began work on his first historical feature film screenplay and a documentary on the 17th century plague epidemic. Over the next several years, in partnership with director Justin Hardy, he wrote and produced several feature length historical films for Channel 4 including THE GREAT PLAGUE and INVITATION TO A HANGING, both winners of Royal Television Society Awards. In 2004, he was recruited by Plum, a startup television network of local TV channels across the US, as the Head of Network Programming and Production, to create, commission, license, and produce hundreds of hours of original content. In five years, he created many original half hour series for the network, and took Plum from zero to eight channels and multiple local Emmy's for news, lifestyle, and commercial production, as well as multimillion dollars annual revenue and a roster of branded-content clients, including Bank of America, Sperry, Ciroc, Patron, Amex, Mercedes, Porsche, Infiniti and many others. From 2011-2014, John turned his attention to YouTube, working for Google-funded original channels. As Head of Production and Executive Producer for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, he oversaw all production for MOCAtv including their first Webby win for MUTUAL CORE with Björk. In 2015, he was the executive producer on the historical film, CAPTAIN WEBB, the story of the first man to swim the English Channel, starring Warren Brown, which played in arthouse cinemas and was sold for TV across the world by Miramax. After two decades of writing and producing true stories, John founded Counterpointing Inc. as a technology and media company designed to deliver multiple perspectives to the user on any device, on any topic.
