Joni Kamiya

Mom, Agvocate, I <3 Science, Windward Oahu

I am a long time Windward Oahu resident born and raised. Grew up on the North Shore and Waikane area on the farm. My dad is Kenneth Kamiya, a long time papaya farmer and advocate in Hawaii. I am also an occupational therapist trained at Washington University in St. Louis, volunteer community educator with Project Dana, public relations and webmaster with the Occupational Therapy Association of Hawaii, and occasional lecturer at Kapiolani Community College. My other jobs include mother of two, caregiver to my grandmother, artist of sorts, and blogger about ag issues in Hawaii.

I write on these issues to bring light to the issues being experienced by many small farmers. I hope to give a voice to these people that make up the picture of agriculture in our islands. I do not receive any shill checks of any kind of my opinions. I'm just a local born Hawaii person who wants to speak up. These are simply my own views of being a Hawaii Farmer's Daughter.
