Jorge-Mario is originally from El Salvador, an immigrant to the U.S. who fled the Civil War tearing his country apart. He became a US citizen in 2008. He studied Community Studies and Public Health at UC Santa Cruz and UC Los Angeles. He has been involved in the immigrant rights movement since 1992. He has served as Director of Communications for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) since 2008.
