Joseph E. B. Lumbard teaches in the department of Arabic and Translation Studies at the American University of Sharjah and is a former advisor for interfaith affairs to the Jordanian Royal Court. A specialist in Quranic Studies, Islamic intellectual traditions and Islamic Ecotheology, he is also a general editor for http://harperone.hc.com/studyquran/ (HarperOne, 2015). His publications include Love and Remembrance: The Life and Work of Amad al-Ghazālī (SUNY Press, Forthcoming, 2016), Submission, Faith and Beauty, The Religion of Islam (2009) and he edited Islam, Fundamentalism, and the Betrayal of Tradition (World Wisdom, 2009), a collection of essays that examines the religious, political and historical factors that have led to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism.
