Joseph LeDoux

Joseph LeDoux is a University Professor and Henry and Lucy Moses Professor of Science, and Professor of Neural Science and Psycholgoy at NYU.He is also the director of the Emotional Brain Institute, a new collaboration between New York University and New York State at the Nathan Kline Institute. His work is focused on the brain mechanisms of emotion and memory. In addition to articles in scholarly journals, he is author of The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life (Simon and Schuster, 1996), Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are (Viking, 2002), and Anxious: Using the Brain to Understand and Treat Fear and Anxiety (Viking, 2015). He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fellow of the New York Academy of Science, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Science, recipient of the 2005 Fyssen International Prize in Cognitive Science and the William James Award from the Association for Psychological Science. He also a member of the National Academy of Sciences. His band, The Amygdaloids, plays music about mind and brain, with many of their songs being based on his research.
