Autry Fellow, MDC
Joshua Mbanusi is an Autry Fellow at MDC, a non-profit in Durham, North Carolina that focuses on poverty alleviation across the South through improvements in education, employment, economic security, and equity-based philanthropy.
He aims to create and implement innovative economic and educational solutions to combat structural barriers inhibiting families from escaping poverty. As a student at Cornell University, Joshua pioneered a campus-wide, one-to-one mentoring program to combat persistently low graduation rates among black males at the university. As a former educator, he taught ‘Social Justice’ outside Halifax County, one of the most economically distressed regions in North Carolina. He has also worked at the U.S. Department of Education, New York State Senate, and Center for Community Self Help. He is deeply committed to expanding opportunities for America’s most underserved families. Follow him on Twitter @JoshuaMbanusi
