President and CEO, Alliance College-Ready Public Schools

As President / CEO, Judy Burton brings expertise in successfully leading and operating public schools. She launched the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, a non-profit charter management organization whose mission is to open and operate a network of high performing middle and high schools in Los Angeles. Ms. Burton succeeded in opening the first high school in 2004 and has successfully grown the network to 15 high schools and six middle schools.

All Alliance schools are in high poverty neighborhoods with historically underperforming schools, and significantly outperform nearby neighboring schools. Six Alliance schools have been named California Distinguished Schools. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked six Alliance schools in the top 3% of all high schools nationwide, and Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School was the only school to be named a national Blue Ribbon School by the U. S. Deparment of Education. In June 2012 the Alliance had eight high school graduating classes, 93 percent of students graduated in 4 years and 95 percent of Alliance graduates went on to college.

The James E. Irvine Foundation and the Harvard Southern California Club acknowledged Ms. Burton with 2010 Education Leadership awards. Ms. Burton also received the Pepperdine University 2011 Superintendent of Distinction award. Claremont University awarded Ms. Burton an honorary Doctorate of Education Degree in 2011.

“We believe all students have the ability to learn at high levels, we give them the opportunity.” -- Judy Burton.
