Julie Garner

Founder, Project Yellow Light

Julie Garner is a Vice President at The Martin Agency, an advertising firm located in Richmond, VA. Garner also serves as co-founder of Project Yellow Light, a national scholarship competition for teens and young adults that is designed to encourage safe driving habits. The project is especially significant to Julie, as her 16-year-old son, Hunter, was killed in a car crash in 2007. Since its inception, the program has captured national attention reaching thousands of students each year, and is proud to be in partnership with the Ad Council, Clear Channel Outdoor, Mazda Motorsports, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) and U-Haul. In 2014, the Inter- American Development Bank (IDB) partnered with Project Yellow Light, taking the program to South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Applicants have one clear mission:encourage their peers to embrace safe driving habits (the leading cause of death for our youth). Julie and her husband, Lowell, are honored to be recognized by YOVASO with the Shining Star Award for “their courage in speaking out and saving lives.”
