Karen Atkinson
GYST is an artist-run company working to make life better for artists
Karen Atkinson is a media, installation and public artist, independent curator and collaborator. She has exhibited and curated internationally and throughout the US including the Fifth Havana Biennial in Cuba, Biennale de Paris in NYC, Australia, Europe, South Africa, Canada and South America. She was a co-founding director of Side Street Projects in 1991, a nonprofit artist-run organization in Los Angeles which is still thriving today and in 2010 won an award as the most innovative organization in the country. Atkinson has been a faculty member at CalArts since 1988. She is a past president of the National Association of Artists' Organizations and has served on many advisory boards of arts organizations.
She founded and spearheads GYST Ink, an artist project that provides information, technology and solutions created by artists for artists, which is an ongoing art project as well as a socially based hybrid organization. Feel free to email me at info@gyst-ink.com
