Karl-Heinz Florenz

German Member of the European Parliament and climate change expert

Karl-Heinz Florenz is a Member of the European Parliament from Germany who sits on Parliament's Environment Committee and the Delegation for Relations with the United States.

A champion and expert on climate change, Mr Florenz was Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety between 2004 and 2007 and European Parliament rapporteur on Climate Change between 2007 and 2009. He forms part of the Group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament.

Mr Florenz is Member (unpaid) of the Advisory Board of Deutsche Umweltstiftung (German Environmental Foundation).

An economist and trained agriculturalist, Mr Florenz is member of the German Christian Democratic Party (CDU) since 1977. He was elected as municipal councillor in Neukirchen-Vluyn, his native city, between 1984 and 1992. Mr Florenz was elected to the European Parliament for the first time in 1989 and subsequently won re-election in 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2009.
