Katherine Hawkins is the national security fellow at OpenTheGovernment.Org.Her work focuses on reform of the national security classification system, and bringing an end to the use of classification to conceal wrongdoing or develop bodies of “secret law.”
She earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2005 and a B.A. from Yale University in 2000. She has previous experience as a fellow in the office of Senator Edward Markey; as the investigator for the Constitution Project’s Task Force on Detainee Treatment; as an attorney representing torture victims in litigation against military contractors; and as a clerk on the Boston Immigration Court. She has written for a number of publications on national security and secrecy issues. The views expressed here are her own.
