Senior Vice President for Community Benefit and External Affairs, VNSNY

Kathryn Haslanger is Senior Vice President for Community Benefit and External Affairs for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York where she is responsible for devising the organization’s community benefit strategy and developing new community initiatives including a Caregiver Support demonstration project. In addition, she oversees the organization’s fundraising and volunteer activities. Kathryn came to VNSNY from Maimonides Medical Center, a 705-bed non-profit hospital in Brooklyn, New York that has been recognized as one of the country’s most wired and wireless hospitals. As Vice President for Health Practice and Policy, she was responsible for identifying and developing program and research opportunities to improve the quality and safety of care for patients with multiple chronic illnesses. She was instrumental in securing initial funding for Brooklyn’s first health information exchange. Before coming to Maimonides, Ms. Haslanger was Vice President for Policy Analysis at the United Hospital Fund of New York, where she directed the Fund’s analytic work in Medicaid, health insurance coverage, long term care, and primary care and coordinated the voluntary community’s efforts to enroll 340,000 New Yorkers in Disaster Relief Medicaid in the wake of September 11th. Previously, Ms. Haslanger served as a senior manager in the City of New York, responsible for Medicaid home care and community-based services for seniors and the disabled.

Trained in law and policy analysis, Ms. Haslanger has honors degrees from Brown University, Boston College Law School, and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
