Katja Bavendam

Katja Bavendam is a 31-year old woman living in NYC, married to her wife Julie. Her 6’8” stature scored her a spot on TLC’s My Giant Life, but by trade, she’s a traffic engineer. Born and raised in Germany, Katja moved to New York in 2004 to pursue her college hoop dreams with the St. Francis Terriers in Brooklyn. After graduating she went on to play professionally overseas until a career-ending injury forced her to give up the game. She returned to New York to go to graduate school at NYU and graduated in May 2013 with an MS in Transportation Planning and Engineering. She met her wife, Julie, who is 5’2”, on an online dating site. After a year and half of dating, Katja proposed and they got married in January 2015. On the weekends, Katja and Julie spend a lot of time in the Catskills and Vermont – hiking, skiing, kayaking. On their to-do list? Start a family! They currently reside in NYC with their two rescue puppies.
