Retired academician and IT manager, now commenting on the intersection of technology and society.

I grew up in a small southern town, earned degrees in political science terminating with a PhD from Harvard, and later picked up a Masters in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins (Whiting School). I worked a few years as an Assistant Professor and 27 years in local government, most of them as Director of Information Systems in a 2,000-person police department. I am currently retired and blog from the San Francisco Bay area.
