Kendra Fershee

Candidate for West Virginia's First Congressional District

I'm Kendra Fershee, and I want to represent West Virginia's First Congressional District. I'm a West Virginia mom and law professor who is ready to go to Washington to fight for your freedom to stay in the state we love. About Kendra: Kendra Huard Fershee is a tenured law professor at West Virginia University. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Tulane University Law School, Kendra has been internationally recognized for her expertise in family law. In addition to her administrative duties as associate dean of WVU’s law school, she serves as Editor in Chief of the Family Law Quarterly, a scholarly journal published by the American Bar Association. For more than a decade, Kendra has been teaching law students in the areas of Family Law, Civil Procedure, Professional Responsibility, Legal Writing, Research and Analysis, and Employment Discrimination. Before teaching, Kendra worked as a securities litigation associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley, and McCloy in Washington, D.C., and New York. She also handled pro bono family law matters while in practice. Before law school, Kendra worked as a political organizer in Washington, D.C., and then in Los Angeles for a civil liberties organization focusing on first amendment, public education, and civil rights issues. Kendra was not born in West Virginia (her favorite bumper sticker reads: "I wasn't born here, but I got here as quick as I could"), but she is thrilled she had the opportunity to come to the state to build a life for herself and her family. Kendra’s children attend Monongalia County public schools and she has been married to Josh for almost nineteen years. Like most parents juggling multiple responsibilities, Kendra doesn’t have much free time, but when she does, she makes the most of it. She is locally “famous” for her fried pickles and homemade onion dip; you might spot her trying to run off those calories on the local rail trail or in WVU’s Core Arboretum. If she isn’t working, running, cooking, or volunteering, Kendra is probably cheering on the seventh graders at a cross country meet, applauding the young performers in Morgantown’s new middle school show choir, or watching her daughter work to improve her backstroke.
