Larry LaRocco has a long history of service to the people of Idaho, and to the people of the United States. Early on, as a Captain in the United States Army, Larry learned what it meant to serve his country, and he has spent the remainder of his career dedicated to his belief in hard work, public service and giving back to the community.

In 1975, as the North Idaho Field Representative for Sen. Frank Church, a position he held for six years, Larry began his work addressing the important issues affecting Idahoans. And he continued this work throughout his tenure in the United States Congress as the Representative of Idaho’s 1st district.

When Larry entered the 102nd Congress in 1991, he took a seat on the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs (now Natural Resources) where he fought to preserve not only Idaho’s precious natural resources, but also the hunting and public land access rights of all Idahoans. Larry authored “The Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area Act of 1993,” which established the 482,000 acre Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area in the State. The following year, he proposed an amendment, also enacted into law, which amended the California Desert Protection Act of 1994 to allow continued hunting in the East Mojave Desert.

In addition to his work in the public sector, Larry has a long history of experience in the banking and financial services industry in Idaho. Prior to his work in Congress, Larry served as an Assistant Vice President and Director of Marketing at the Twin Falls Bank and Trust, located in Idaho’s 2nd district. He also worked as a Vice President at First Idaho Corporation, and later as a financial services consultant at Shearson Lehman Hutton, Inc.

As the Congressman representing Idaho’s 1st district, Larry also served on the House Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs. There, his continued work in the industry proved to be instrumental in the modernization of banking and financial services in our country.

A businessman, military officer, banker, Congressman, grandfather. Larry is a man who understands Idaho, and who will represent all of Idaho's people, not just the powerful interest groups. He will work in a bipartisan fashion to ensure that all Idahoans have the basic necessities such as affordable and available healthcare, and he will fight to eradicate the rise in methamphetamine production that is driving violent crime and gang activity in the state. And as a dedicated grandfather, Larry will work to expand educational opportunities for all of Idaho’s children.

Larry received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Portland, and subsequently attended Boston University where he received a Master of Science degree. He also completed one year of graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Larry resides in McCall with his wife Christine. He has two grown children, Anna and Matthew, and one grandson, Charlie.
