Laura-Marie Töpfer

Senior Scholar, University of Oxford, Hertford College

Laura-Marie is the Senior Scholar in Chinese cross-border finance at Hertford College, University of Oxford. Based within Oxford University's Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, her research focuses on Chinese capital market development, with an emphasis on institutional investor behaviour. She is a Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Global Projects Centre (GPC) and the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University. Laura-Marie is an external advisor Bin Fen Art Ltd, China’s first e-commerce platform holding exclusive intellectual property rights for certified replicas of Chinese art works including household names such as Fang Lijun (方力钧) and Li Tianyuan (李天元). She also served as a Senior Associate at the consulting firm Macro Advisory Partners, where she was part of the China advisory team. Previously, she was a policy analyst at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the EU Commission and at the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE). She holds a Master’s degree in Political Economy from the University of Oxford and a BSc in International Relations from the University of Manchester and Sciences Po Paris. Born in the former German Democratic Republic, Laura-Marie grew up in East Germany before moving to the UK, where she still lives and works today.
