Laurie Kaufman is a Los Angeles-based writer, communications strategist, and radio producer. Laurie served as the Senior Media Strategist for the Women and Gender Constituency at the UN Climate Talks in Paris (COP21) where she worked with leaders from the global north & south fighting for gender equality and women’s human rights - both necessary for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Laurie is the former Executive Director of Public Interest Pictures and Regional Director of the Los Angeles Green Festival. For eight years she served as Communications Director for the Los Angeles-based NGO TreePeople and she supported numerous environmental, social justice, and urban sustainability organizations including NRDC, the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE), the Bioneers, and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. Book projects have included Thom Hartmann’s Unequal Protection: The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human Rights, and Winning Our Energy Independence, by energy insider S. David Freeman. Laurie has a Masters in Cultural Anthropology with an emphasis on environmental ethics; she has produced public affairs programming for “Deadline LA” on KPFK radio, a Pacifica affiliate.
