Laury Silvers

Scholar and Activist

Laury Silvers is a scholar and activist. She is the author, co-author, and co-editor of books and articles on Sufism in the Formative Period, Pious and Sufi Women, Muslim women's religious authority, and Muslim women's encounter with the Qur'an. She teaches courses on Islam at the University of Toronto. She co-founded and acts as an imam and khatib at the Toronto Unity Mosque, possibly the first Gender-Equal/LGBTQ-Affirming mosque in the U.S. and Canada.
