Author and LGBTQ activist; books include Heather Has Two Mommies and October Mourning; A Song for Matthew Shepard

Lesléa Newman is the author of 70 books for readers of all ages including the children's classic, Heather Has Two Mommies; the teen novel-in-verse Octoher Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard; the short story collection, A Letter to Harvey Milk; and the poetry collection, I Carry My Mother. From 2008 - 2010, she served as the poet laureate of Northampton, MA. Currently she is a faculty member of Spalding University's low-residency MFA in Writing program. In addition, she travels all around the country delivering presentations on LGBTQ rights including "He Continues to Make a Difference: The Story of Matthew Shepard" and "Heather's Mommy Speaks Out: Homophobia, Censorship and Family Values."
